Sometimes.  

Barb's old boyfriend used to call my younger sister, "Pumpkin".  
Marlene didn't like that.  

She eventually got him to stop using that term.  Then, a 
few weeks later, she asked him:  "Why don't you call me 'Pumpkin' 
any more?  Don't you like me?"  

True story!
