Hello David,
It was at the George Moscone Center where it has been for 6 years,
since moving back from San Jose (It never did make it Back to Oakland).
Had a chance to hear Bill G. speak again, passed. Went to a Relational
Database seminar by Chris Date instead, he was throwing around 1st Normal
Forms and all, You would have liked it. He heads the group that wrote
the "Third Manifesto", who think SQL should be enhanced, Not replaced(The
2nd by Mike Stonebreaker at Cal moved to dump SQL, Not Relational Theory).
I also went to 1 on C++ given by Andrew Koenig of Bell Labs, he said the
Final Draft of the ISO C++ Standard is due to be out in November 1997.
Microsoft Press has a pretty good book on programming with OLE 2.
Since ActiveX is just a new Marketing name for OLE 2.xx, it should be OK.
As VisualJ++ 1.1 new, there may be none, at least I have not seen 1, yet.
I suggest you might look for one on the Java API, it is the crucial part.
Personally, I feel that the VFP+WWWPAGE+SERVER, is the best solution
if all one plans to do is Read/Write data to/from the INet and/or WWW site.
(See Web Programming with Visual FoxPro, Dr. Dobbs Journal, December, 1996)
The ActiveX Control Pad and Layout Control are also available for free
to let you build Web pages and add content with VBScript or JavaScript.
I am sure You are right, that is what they were calling it. But,
that was then and this is now. I guess the same Corporate policy is still
in effect so, the name is "We do not comment on Unannounced Products". On
the other hand, when Robert Muglia, V-p Developer Tools group was quoted
as referring to it as 6 in the April 1997 FPA, does that constitute an
announcement (it does under California Law, at least)? I just think it
might avoid confusion if everyone called it 6, whatever the "real" name
turns out to be.
Best regards, den
