One would correctly assume the more expensive top of the line models
would have better tuners but most of the cheaper TVs radiate so much
noise from their own microcontroller circuitry as to make off-air
signals nearly unwatchable on some channels. When did the FCC start
allowing this kind of TV to be sold? The Reagan years?

The tv cards are good but need a really clean pc rfi wise since most
are real pigs, especially monitors and other peripherals. You can
check this out by turning up the volume on your sound card to max. The
noises in the background are being detected by the audio chain
transistor junctions on the sound card.
