Remote boot over the wire makes maintenance a lot easier, since you don't
have to upgrade possibly hundreds or thousands of workstations individually
in a large corporate environment. This is the whole motivation for the
various schemes proposed to simply workstation administration, including
IBM's (released and available) "Workspace on Demand" and Microsoft's
(vaporware) "Zero Administration Client."
Upgrading a workstation in the field from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, for
example, can easily cost more than replacing it because of the expense
associated with the time of skilled administrators.
