A friend of mine is facing criminal prosecution next month for allegedly
having a disorder called "Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy". The doctor
who declared her to have this disorder had never even met her, he simply
read some medical reports that another doctor gave him. If anyone has
any information at all that might benefit my friend, please feel free to
post it or to E-Mail me at 1:161/19. Not only is my friend facing the
possibility of going to prison, but she has also lost her three children
to Children's Protective Services and they want her husband to divorce
her and swear that she will never have contact with them again. If my
friend's husband goes along with this (which he isn't), then CPS _may_
decide to let him have one or all of the children back. They do have
very good attorney's, but I really want to do more to help them.
By the way, the doctor that declared my friend to have this disorder has
written a book about the case (already published) and will be testifying
as the _local expert_ in this field. This same doctor has _uncovered_
four times the national count of parents with this disorder. Presently
there are three women in this county alone that have been _diagnosed_
as having this disorder in just the last year or so; each time has been
when the children's doctor(s) was about to be sued for malpractice.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why men are never diagnosed as
having this disorder? (No offense to anyone, it just seems kind of
strange that only women seem to _have_ this disorder.) I would think
that both sexes would be equally capable of deliberately harming their
children in order to get attention from a doctor.
Any thoughts, advice or info on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Valery
