On 06 Jan 98, concerning _Skeptic's corner._, James Root said to Troy H.

I've read somewhere that some species of spiders, shortly after leaving the
egg sac, intentionally create large, free-flowing amounts of webbing for the
sole purpose of catching the wind and being carried to a (hopefully) better
place to start their lives, away from the competition of their siblings.

ittle

Rains of toads, fish, and similar creatures are supposedly caused when
tornadoes and similar atmospheric phenomenon pass over a pond or lake. Large
amounts of water are sucked up, along with anything in the water. Since
everything has different weights and aerodynamics, it gets separated out as
it is carried along by winds at high altitude, and eventually falls in
different areas. Somebody a few miles over probably got rained on by large
fish that day. :-)
