Chretian pilloried Mulroney about NAFTA and promised to tear it up when he
was elected (which is a significant part of why he was elected).

Chretian also promised to "axe the tax" and kill GST when he was
elected (which was also a significant part of why he was elected).

Now, Chretian takes credit for eliminating the deficit and starting to pay
down the debt (using the economy that grew because of NAFTA and the
revenues that came from the GST -- which have also grown because the
economy grew because of NAFTA).
