Hiya Will,
On 03-02-98, whilst lying in the gutter of the information super highway, I
heard Will Hargrave whispering to Neil Croft about Upgrade,
NC>> I've never seen a coax fail in the middle. I've seen dozens that fail
 NC>> at the ends.
WH> I've seen coax fail in the middle when it was shut in a door.... ;-)
There are always exceptions. Most common fail I've seen in Cat5 stuff is when
people kick it out of the floor port. It's still better than a co-ax system
though.
NC>> Pass. I know IBM are working on kilobit TR. Whoosh.
WH> I looked at the Arcnet specs, and it will go for miles, especially the
WH> twisted pair variety. Low speed backbone, anyone? ;-)
I've just slung a pair of active hubs out. That's the last of that.
NC>> 3 or 4 PCs. IBM 16/4 ISA cards. AT&T Cat 5 wiring (No rubbish here
NC>> matey), vs 3Com Combo cards and a rough bit of coax I put in.
WH> No reason why the token ring shouldn't technically win I suppose.
It should be around 4 times as fast we reckon.
 WH> But on a cost basis? :-(
Free Vs. Free. No contest.
