Recently. As a matter of fact when I switched from sbbsecho v2.x to sbbsecho v3.x. The older version didn't check for packet passwords when a certain configuration was not met (on the Sync system). So while you were most likely sending a packet password since the very first day we linked together, it was never caught until I upgraded the tosser (where it works as expected), and you began linking with Mystic systems. Seems like there may be quite a bit of software out there that ignores packet passwords in echomail if this is the first time anyone has ever noticed this issue.
