-> Thus it will be a LONG time until our brains catch up -> with our technology and society. -> Look how effective religious and political pandering to emotion -> over issues is :-( Your two comments are tied together. It is the rapid technological advances taking place nowadays that are not leaving enough time for societies to assimilate them. The pandering had almost stopped when the scientific revolution took place in Greece (if I remember correctly) but then 2 things happened. 1) Suddenly the pace was reckless resulting in specialization and 2) Christianity started to take hold. Interestingly, while the counter force of Christianity might have made things saner it did not. Its impact was greater on society and less on science, which continued at a more subdued rate with fewer followers. The result was that more and more people needed to be pandered. The "big why" no longer concerned with understanding how things worked and why but on who created this and how to keep that thing happy. It was a golden time for priests. They pandered the public like billy-o before pulling the rug and plunging them into fear of hell. Things haven't changed much. That need is still the same, religion is still filling it, and science is too busy building more and more speed and even more specialists. History repeats itself. --- Jitender Saan* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
