I don't believe and confess in the "god" of Islam, and see
little evidence of Islam's "great benevolence". I do, however,
see the Pope playing the dhimmi, like many of the West's leaders.

Pope Praises `Benevolence' of Islam, Backs Turkey Joining EU

Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Pope Benedict XVI praised Islam and backed
Turkey's bid for membership in the European Union, distancing himself
from earlier remarks that had fueled anger among Turks and throughout
the Muslim world.

The pontiff, on his first visit to a Muslim nation, spoke of the
``great benevolence'' of Islam, a shift from comments two months ago,
when he cited a 14th century Byzantine emperor who linked Islam to
violence, setting off protests throughout the world. Thousands of
police blanketed Ankara today to ensure the pope's arrival and
meetings were not marred by demonstrations.

``We believe and confess in one God, even if in different ways,''
Benedict said in an address today to Turkish religious affairs chief
Ali Bardakoglu, one of the first Muslim leaders to criticize the
speech in September. ``This noble land has seen the blossoming of the
Islamic civilization in the most diverse of areas, including
literature and art.''
