Well, I got a glimpse of the NEW Novell OS due to be released this fall.
I'm not real sure about a lot of this new stuff but I thought I'd pass
along what little I remebered.
Here are a few things...
Native IP (IPv6)
Can be pure TCP/IP on complete network.
Multi Processor Kernal (MPK)
Virtual Memory (HD access from the server)
Similiar to the way windows functions with 8 meg.
This will aid with large JAVA apps.
Winsock 2.0
IPP Internet Printing Protocol (NDPS)
Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
New installation Paradigm.
Applications can be distributed across multiple servers to reduce load.
***
NSS - Novell Storage System
Next Generation File System.
Semantic Agent
64 bit - Storage now measured in Petrabytes!
Binary Tree (BTREE)
3-4 second mount "dirty" (turn off files server)
.01 second mount "clean" (regular startup)
Can mount 250 million files, 3 name spaces, 8 meg RAM in under 2 secs!
How fast can you mount 100 Gig now?
How much RAM would you need?
No Vrepair.
Journaling Based File System rather than (10 year old) FAT in RAM.
***
Enhanced Naming convention
///Corp_1/OU=SSD/FS1/usr/mikem/private/index.htm
This is all I currently remember off the top of my head.
Just thought I'd share some of the exciting news with you.
Wonder...will it be 4.2 or 5.0???
