LP>I don't agree with your logic. I do not profess to be a medical doctor,
LP>therefore any opinion I offer as to a child's possible condition can be
LP>only that: opinion. What this woman was saying to me was that I cannot
LP>say the words "hyperactive," "short attention span," or "you should take
LP>the child to be assessed." I disagree with you that it's not a
LP>teacher's place to tell a parent that---it's nearly a duty to do so if
LP>the teacher observes a problem.
A year or so ago I do believe we went around and around on diagnosing
ADD, and someone mentioned that, because it was a behavioral condition
as well as a medical condition, a proper diagnosis is ONLY made when
doctor, teacher, parents and a psychologist are involved. Since the
process of prescribing medication for the condition is so controversial,
that explanation seemed VERY reasonable to me. I know that my wife, a
4th grade teacher, is requested to call Doctors several times a year to
discuss prescription levels and student behavior.
