Probably. But then, none of my machines can use that update anyways. :)

The problem is that SMB/CIFS relies on this, and if you remove this 
'feature',
lots of things will break. The problem is that MS cannot reinvent the wheel
without breaking everything in the past, and they know that can't mandate an
upgrade everywhere simultaneously.
