BK>> Nah, the liberal system is a jobs based system. The welfare
BK>> system is really a conservative construct,
JM> Then you would have no objections if ALL welfare was
JM> stopped. Damn Bob we agree.
There will always be some need for welfare, there are people who
will never be able to support themselves. There will always be
some people who need full time care. Unless we adopt the Nazi
solution we will need welfare for them.
Other than that, not only do I want welfare stopped, it is my
desire and goal that the need for welfare should be eliminated
completely. When that happens it can be abolished, except for
the cases I cited above.
Problem is, too many on the right believe in "Root hog or die."
We ain't talking about farm animals, we are talking about
people. And we are talking about people who often are
experiencing a short term difficulty. Before Welfare deform of
the mid '90s about 90% of all welfare recipients got off welfare
on their own within a few years.
And since the '70s, the FED has pursued a policy of maintaining
a level of unemployment that keeps inflation down. If the US
govt is keeping people out of work, then the US govt owes them
compensation.
The FED's mandate is stable prices, and low unemployment. Alan
Greenspan said years ago, the FED's only mandate should be low
inflation. These days the FED acts like that is their only
mandate. Let's get unemployment down to where there really is a
job for everyone, a job that pays a living wage, and then we
won't have a welfare problem.
