Start with the canonical sites:
Debian: http://www.debian.org
Red Hat: http://www.redhat.com
Slackware: http://www.slackware.org
Caldera: http://www.caldera.com
(Watch out for "com" and "org" distinctions.)

NFS is "Network File System," the de facto Unix file sharing standard
pioneered by Sun. Several Internet sites allow anonymously mounting their
Linux archives in read-only mode for remote installation using NFS. Several
of the distributions have installation programs which can use other
protocols, such as FTP in the case of Debian.

It is a great deal easier with Linux. The Microsoft DNS server has serious
problems, and most NT boxes which need DNS servers seem to elect to use the
freeware port of bind from Unix instead.
