Hiya Will,
On 28-01-98, whilst lying in the gutter of the information super highway, I
heard Will Hargrave whispering to Neil Croft about Upgrade,
GD>>>> Going to 10baseT from coax-based Ethernet will increase
 GD>>>> reliability.
 WH>>> Eh? 10Base2 is generally /less/ reliable than 10BaseT - if one
 WH>>> node
NC>> That's what the man said Will.
 WH> Shoot me. I can't read :)
BANG!
WH>>> Arcnet is very robust. It's not inherently unreliable.
 NC>> It's still generally a co-ax.
WH> Yes, but any old coax will work over short distances....
I've never seen a coax fail in the middle. I've seen dozens that fail at the
ends.
NC>> Do what I'm doing. Go to 16meg Token ring. =o)
WH> Apparently Arcnet was available in 100mbits???
Pass. I know IBM are working on kilobit TR. Whoosh.
NC>> Anyone care to work out the theoretical and practical improvements in
NC>> performance of 16meg Token Ring over 10base2 Ethernet?
WH> Depends a lot on usage, I would think.
3 or 4 PCs. IBM 16/4 ISA cards. AT&T Cat 5 wiring (No rubbish here matey), vs
3Com Combo cards and a rough bit of coax I put in.
