I'm thinking a bit beyond that, more similar to photoshop plugins but where
all of photoshop is made from a basic "starter applet" and then
you just plugin the functions you want via some sort of graphical
interface. It could be a photoshop app or with a simple drag and drop of
components it could become a video phone app or a movie editor or..

well that gives you a basic idea.
