As you well know, becoming or simply voting Libertarian is TOTALLY out
of the question for me, even were it to be the only party in existence
with conservative leanings, but I'm moved to comment nonetheless -

How was it done before the public school system existed?  Bear in mind,
that this nation had the best educated populace on the planet before
public education came into being, not only for the time, but compared to
our day as well, beating out the products of today's public school
system hands down.  The literacy rate then averaged around 95% - 97%
overall.  Several of the colonies boasting 100% literacy.
Take away the nipple, David, and the people will find a way today, just
as they did then, and be better off for the weaning.

Thanks to the public school system, that's what we have now!  It's
gotten so bad, some companies are having to put newly hired college
grads thru remedial education just to get them capable of writing memos!

The proper course is to follow the Constitution and abolish every last
vestige of federal involvement.
At the same time, the populace in each state should work on shutting
down state involvement as well.
In the end, there should be no government at any level involved in
education.
