VM> There was the idea kicked around to have Saavik
VM> standing behind Grammer as his first officer on the
VM> Bozeman.
Actually, as I understand it, from anecdotal evidence gleaned from Robin
Curtis at a con, the original script had Saavik as the Captain of the ship,
which would have been the Enterprise movie miniature. Curtis was not
approached, and neither Alley nor the E-A model were available (the E-A was
in the Smithsonian at the time), but Alley's Cheers cohort Grammar got wind
of it and was given the part.
VM> As aired, though, Saavik could not have been aboard the
VM> Bozeman when it jumped through time. The Bozeman was
VM> from the year 2278. Saavik graduated from the Academy
VM> circa 2285 (ST2). Too bad, woulda been a nice touch.
Since she held the rank of Lieutenant, I really doubt that she was just
graduating. Given the nature of the Kobiyashi Maru test and her rank, she
was almost certainly there taking a Command officer's course of some sort.
The entries in the Okudapedia regarding this and Kirk's rank on graduation
make it quite clear that Mike, Denise and Debbie are not all that well
informed about how a military works.
