I am currently working on an all digital post suite installation, and must
say I am quite impressed with the quality of the video (very big
UNDERstatement).
This house has an AXIAL editor (approx $133K), and I was looking for some
feedback from other users of this system. I had never seen or heard of these
folks before (except for print ads), and was very impressed with its
capabilities. This installation also uses a pair of real-time read/write
disks that allow up to several minutes of real-time video storage, so they
can actually do effects using two segments on the same tape! IOW, you can do
an A/B wipe (for example) using two segments on the A reel.
This house uses D-2 and digital Beta machines, a Chyron Maxine, and a BTS
switcher (BTS made him a sweeter deal than Grass I guess). The switcher has
11 Aux busses, all under Editor control.
The fella that owns all these neat toys firmly believes that TV has evolved
almost to its highest format (as far as tape machines go), that of component
digital. Digital BetaCam and Panasonics D-5 series seem to be in this
category, are there any other component digital (as opposed to composite
digital) systems out there?
Thanx,
**Mike**
