ml> working apache install... oh well... maybe it'll be for ml> the best to just wait for you to "have that baby" ;) ML> I got two words: "Static Binaries", for Linux, Windows & DOS. ml> true... that could be done but then you've bypassed the ml> whole idea of shared code libraries (dll, so, and ml> such)... and you end up back in bloat-city cause now ml> you've got code that does the same thing stored all ml> over the place in different executables... Well look at it this way - You need a 500 mb Linux installation with all the GCC stuff, libs & headers to build the source in the first place :) That's a form of bloat in itself. I don't mind if all the tidbits, external tools, libs & headers come packaged with the source. But when you have to go digging for dozens of 3rd party tools with version compatibility doubts; that really pisses me off. The Max 3.01 binaries were about 3 mbs. All you needed was a DOS box to run it. No hassles, no worries; just get the files and they work. ML> Probably too much to ask :) ml> no, not really... guess it depends on how far back to ml> DOS methods you want to go :) Heh. For the Maximus DOS vs. OS/2 wars I favour DOS, mainly because it runs all the games and doors. You can't have a BBS with no doors ! --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Top Hat 2 BBS (1:343/41) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 620 848 @PATH: 343/41 138/146 392 123/500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
