You can either make these (they are much studier and can be make in
interesting shapes) or you can find an old GS handbook. They show how to
make a popsicle stick loom that can be used to make headbands, etc. I made
one with I was a child and had months of fun experimenting with designs. As
for sewing, you can get kits that teach children how to do counted
cross-stitch on plastic canvas. They usually come with a big plastic needle.
The needle can be reused and the children can create their own designs. This
is really cheap.

All my kids played with spools. They loved it. I used wooden spools, since
the plastic ones have all the extra holes and don't hold paint, and heavy
duty workboot laces. The laces held up through four kids. Though you say
traveling is out, does that mean you can't take her on

I got most of my kids toys at the Goodwill. My eldest daughter still spends
most of her money there....getting crafts.

... I need some duck tape. My duck has a quack in it.
