| subject: | The Hummer is dying... |
Hello Ross
-=> Quoting Ross Sauer to All <=-
RS> So now that gas-hog piece of crap phony "off-road"
RS> in-your-face-status- symbol-on-wheels is on it's way to join the Edsel.
>
RS> Do I have a personal gripe with them? Damn right I do.
RS> Several times I've nearly been reduced to a red smear while riding my
RS> bicycle by those monstrosities.
RS> Yes, I've nearly been run over by other vehicles too, including a
RS> couple near-misses by a "smart car." (Or whatever they
call that ugly
RS> little two- seat car.)
>
RS> But Hummer drivers that nearly clobbered me always, that is when they
RS> even *NOTICE* me, have this "I own this road,
trespasser!" attitude.
The problem in North America, is that bicycles and motor vehicles
don't have the same attitudes to each other as in Europe.
I never saw the need for a Hummer on the street, in fact a waste of
engineering. When I found out that the "Smart Car" was made by
Mercedez Benz, and the problems it has, again a passing fancy.
I don't know where you are riding your bike Ross, but some places
in North America do have bike lanes, and slowly as in Europe
the bikes and the vehicles you hate are getting used to each other.
Of course then there is a Uniform Traffic Law in North America
and drivers of all vehicles on the road must obey them Ross.,
Something we don 't see with bikes and cars.
Good luck ....
Peter
