GD> Going to 10baseT from coax-based Ethernet will increase reliability.
WH> Eh? 10Base2 is generally /less/ reliable than 10BaseT - if one node
WH> goes down, T-piece comes disconnected, terminator goes dud, the whole
WH> thinnet segment goes down.
WH> 10BaseT doesn't have that.
If you read my statement again, you'll see that your reply is kinda out
to lunch... :)
GD> Going from arcnet will give you increased reliability AND increased
GD> speed.
WH> Arcnet is very robust. It's not inherently unreliable.
Not in my experience... Just as bad as 10base2.
WH> Although it's 2.5mbits, increasing the speed to 10mbits ethernet won't
WH> give a 4x speed increase, because of the greater efficiency of the
WH> modified token ring protocol Arcnet uses.
I agree you'll never see 10mbits out of ethernet, but neither will you
see 2.5mbits out of arcnet...
In what way "modified token ring protocol"?
