There are a number of thoughts from this. I grew up in the era of
"mutually assured destruction", when the USA and Soviet Union were
the two superpowers capable of destroying each other, and pretty
well everyone else also. Nuclear war was to be avoided at all costs,
no matter how much hatred or venom there was between the Capitalist
West & the Communist East ... the "Cold War". There were a few times
when all-out nuclear war was likely or possible (Cuban missile crisis,
assassination of JFK, Vietnam etc), but diplomacy or bluff won the
day ... noone really wanted all-out war. Now, though, the various
nations seem to be locked on a course where war is desirable, possible,
and inevitable. Israel is a cancer, which must be destroyed; the USA
is the "Great Satan", which must be destroyed; Iran is part of the
"Axis of Evil", and like Syria must be "taken out",
etc. ("Cancer",
"Great Satan", "Axis of Evil" etc are not my terms).
All the major
players seem to have hooks in their jaws; it is just a matter of
reeling them in when the time comes.

Further, though the 1967 "Six Day War" was short, its after effects
went on for some time. I always remember fishing by the Munsterland
in late 1966 when it was in port here - it was in the Suez Canal
when war broke out, & was trapped for almost 8 years until the
Canal was cleared & reopened. When the Ezekiel war takes place,
it should be fairly short & decisive, with Israel kept busy finding
& burying bodies, and burning the weapons for some time after.

And to the remnant of Israel itself, who will looked upon Him they
have pierced, and mourn, for it will dawn on them that He was truly
the Messiah all along. There are so many commentators on the 'net
& in print etc who not only scoff at the notion of the Rapture, but
who are angry at those of us who accept it, and attribute it to 
apostate or heretical Jesuit priests or Plymouth Brethren etc.
In effect, there will be so many "Christians" left behind that they
will be able to give credence to the "New Age" belief that those
who have disappeared have been taken in judgement, while those who
remain are fit to enter the "Kingdom of God", "Age of
Aquarius" etc,
and who will be likely to fall for Antichrist's claim to be God.

Yes, this is something that I have difficulty even beginning to
understand!
