There is, but it requires three-way calling.  
While on a call, depress the switchhook for 1/2 second (flash) and you'll 
hear three beeps then a dial tone.  Dial *70, then flash again.  You'll 
return to the original inbound call with call waiting disabled.  It's a long 
way to go, and getting a modem to do this can be a challenge, although some 
modems will flash, but it IS possible.
 JP> For obvious reasons, one should not run a BBS on a phone line
