JD>That's a pretty stiff current but just about what I was
JD>told to expect.
Most of the time you're fighting a healthy surface current
which tapers off as you get closer to the wreck.
JD>Interesting that they will only let you explore down to 100
JD>feet. What is the deepest part of the wreck? I can kind of
JD>understand the limit for beginners but anyone with Advanced
JD>should be able to handle it.
Famous last words... The Duane sits in the sand at roughly 130
FSW, so it's not so much the depth of the wreck that causes
concern, it's the fact that you can get lost very easily inside
of a ship that's 327 feet long. The dive shops will let you dive
the three levels of the superstructure which have numerous openings
for extended penetration, but they will not allow the general
diving public to penetrate below the main deck.
JD>Seems like every time I come down in the off-season the
JD>operators have a hard time filling the boat and I usually
JD>get blown off. I've been down at Xmas but don't like coming
JD>down between Xmas and Spring because of this reason.
Depends on who you dive with... the larger operators like Slate's
and Ocean Divers will run boats every day of the year (weather
permitting) and often run multiple boats to accomodate divers of
differing experience levels.
JD>I like the part about the lobster, I could just about live
JD>on it. Shit, I need to get down there.
I brought home 14 last Saturday. :)
