CW>We discussed the limited dive profiles that the Cayman
CW>Islands seem to favor these days. I got an E-mail from
CW>Lou Vallone that when he visited Cayman Brac in Feb of
CW>this year that he had some "discussions" with the
CW>divemasters and manager, Zak, also about the dive profiles.
I've read numerous accounts in the Internet scuba discussion
areas about the restrictive Cayman diving profiles, and the
general diving public's dislike of that practice.
CW>Did you hear anything at DEMA about the dive profiles
CW>in use on the Cayman Islands now.
Yup. It was a pretty hot topic of discussion on the trade
show floor. The bottom line is that the members of the Cayman
Watersports Association (which includes almost every dive
operator on all three islands) have all agreed to adopt these
"safer" diving requirements. It seems that diver accidents
have a nasty way of detracting the tourism business that supports
the islands' economy.
Many of the folks I spoke with are looking at alternative
destinations for their dive groups. The Caymans are beginning
to lose some of their charm...
