since recipes appear to be popping up... I figured I'd post this one.
Made
it a few days ago and it was *wonderful*
Came out of a cookbook (in itself wonderful.. full of interesting
cultural
bits, tips, hints etc, not to mention lovely photography) by Martin Yan
(of
Yan Can Cook fame) called Culinary Journey Through China

He got his start in Burnaby, you know. We could have taken you to his
restaurant when you were here, if we'd thought of it. He isn't there
very often any more, but used to always be there (some years ago.) His
original "Yan Can Cook" was a local cable show from Burnaby's Cable 4

I've made several things from this, and the only thing stopping me from
trying more is that many of the recipes call for ingredients not
conveniently found at the local grocery store. (Though with the large
Asian
population here I'm sure I can find an Asian grocery store... and I
*know*
Laurie can Hongcouver being what it is :) (if Laurie were inclined
to
eat noodles that is, though one could always leave them out)

So can Lisa, come to that, who does eat noodles, and does most of the
cooking.

We thoroughly enjoyed dim sum yesterday. We arrived a bit early by
accident, and the lady recognized us and opened the door for us. Very
sweet of her, I thought, so I left a massive tip. But on top of that, we
were the only ones there for a while, so we got all the service there
was to have, and our food was only just out of the steamers, too hot to
touch. Extra delicious. We left as the crowd arrived (taking extra home
with us) Real treat.

I forwarded your recipe to Lisa - don't laugh! Yes, I know she's right
beside me, but this way it's in *her* data bank.

3) place brother in a 2-quart pot, bring to a boil. Add meat, mushrooms
and
cabbage. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 3 minutes. Add shrimp
and
simmer for 1 minute. Add noodles, oyster sauce, chili garlic sauce, and
sesame oil; cook until heated through. Ladel into bowls

My brothers aren't in Vancouver, would it be all right if I used broth
instead? Then, of course, Lisa will likely be cooking it, and her
brothers *are* within reach.

I know, I know, I told Sally I wasn't going to. Couldn't help myself.

Laurie path of least resistance Phoenix
