Re: Private LEO -Summary
I initially had a Signature File which had "Statement of Truths", which
unfortunately started a hail storm of controversy on my "Private LEO"
 which was attached to it.
Over the course of these few weeks much has been said on the topic,
and many have quoted laws which I knew existed, and no where did it
ever state I could *not* call myself a "Private Law Enforcement
Officer", and no one could prove I intentionally meant to deceive or
delude any person(s) into believing I was a "Sworn Law Officer".
__
In over 13 years of my working in this field, and having worked for a
 lawyer, and my being a "Sworn Notary", this is my understanding;
 * Public Law Enforcement; is the enforcement of laws by person(s) so
sworn by their perspective governments to protect and defend the
constitutional rights of individuals in existence within our society,
those person(s) where applicable, shall also be sworn to enforce
motor vehicle traffic laws as well.
   - Not all person(s) whom are sworn to enforce constitutional laws,
are automatically sworn to enforce motor vehicle laws.
 * Private Law Enforcement; is to provide private establishments and/or
person(s) certain protection against other individuals and or
incidents within a "defined" area _or_ location.
   - Most in this area are not Sworn to enforce any public laws.
   - Typically Individuals in this are are not properly trained.
   - Some who are trained, feel they have the same power, authority and
influence as those so sworn by a government.
__
The issue of listing a "Private LEO" on a signature or tag file, or
having a "title" of such has brought much debate, some have felt that
such a title is not worthy of a "define" security officer, by certain
persons whom (in discussion) have no real understanding of what a
professionally trained Private "Security Officer" does.
I have used this term to separate myself from those in this field who
are of the Barney Fife types, I however, am not, and those who have
stated I am, do not have any grasp of who I am as a person.

EN> IOW, the state of Ohio for a fee will train security guards and you

EN> you are a security guard, a perfectly legitimate calling but one you

The bickering about this topic is about what I witnessed when I was
working corrections for the cuyahoga county sheriff's department
when certain inmates got into an argument over a piece of bread, and
when I also worked security/bouncer for a night club in cleveland.
I feel that since there was/is no intent to deceive anyone on this
issue, and since I have always stated I am private, I will and shall,
use the term when I feel it necessary to do so, but since it apparently
will cause much controversy, for now it will not appear on any
 tag/signature file I have.
 Conclusion;
It is a sad commentary when certain individuals in their respective
field (namely Law Enforcement), claim that they are better than another
within that field, As Earl states above, and I agree with, yes I am
ashamed of using the term "security" generically, as the vast majority
working within it do *not* have the necessary skills to perform like
professionals as they are supposed to, and it makes the rest of us look
like complete idiots because of that lack of professionalism.
The Question remains; what is Law Enforcement, and do policies
instituted by private companies actually count, as person(s) can be
disciplined in much the same manor as ones written for our society
  in general?
There is no definitive answer as because it depends on who you ask, as
it has been apparent from the on going controversy surrounding this
 topic.
Experience tells me, the debate will never.
 Thank you!
