Another thing changed was that Eowyn wasn't banished by Wormtongue like the
movie shows, he was present when Gandalf disenchanted the king of Rohan and
kicked out Wormtongue, and was fighting at Helm's Deep throughout the
defense....  Though I dont recall who Gandalf showed up with as
reinforcements....

I thought Peter Jackson kept to the spirit of the book, if not to the
letter, but lots of subtle (and not so subtle) changes.  He did little to
show the connectionn between Sauron and Sarumon (Minas Morgul and Orthanc
in Isengard, hence the "Two Towers")
