I think Fidonet propagation was always a little quirky, but with such a small echo one notices much more. Then the original arrived at the same time as Mike's repost of it. > > Weirdness > > How are you doing? What are you writing now? How is your health? How is > the household income situation? >I'm slogging away on the Liavek novel. It is at least well and truly launched now -- five chapters and counting. I'm very happy to hear that. I'm looking forward to this one. > I'm also thinking about a joint sequel to HILLS and WHIM, and the editor who is reprinting the Secret Country books is actually interested in such a weird wild object. That's cool! How was Hills received in general? It was so out of the ordinary, I'm curious to know whether it bothered or pleased people >I'm starting to believe that the reprints will happen, and preliminary reports of the general attitudes of the sales reps and the numbers of orders are pretty encouraging. Better and better >My health is better. I got to cut the dosage of one of my four blood pressure medications in half. And I'm thinking that if I am attentive to diet and exercise, I could probably cut another in half sometime in the next few months, or cut this one in half again. This is encouraging. I was completely off blood pressure medication, but got thrown out of the Zone during the trip to New Zealand, so I'm back on a low dose right now, working away to get things back to where they were. I'd also lost weight, which all came back, but it looks as if that's starting to shift again, too >The income situation is pretty awful. David is working and I'm writing, but the money is very uneven and we have an enormous debt load, partly my medical bills and partly the result of our habits when freelancing still brought in huge chunks of money far apart. We'd put stuff on the cards and then pay it off as soon as we had money, but if you get to a point where you don't have money, this is a problem. Urk. Yes > Laurie (feeling out of touch) Yes, how's by you? The law firm I'd been working with for the past 4+ years closed down, but one of the lawyers I used to work for found a job for me where I work from home. The BC government is putting all legal documents on-line, and I'm part of the development team. More than twice the income I had as a paralegal, with no commute. Office politics has me cooling my heels at the moment. I have enough set aside to coast for a whole month. If the trouble maker isn't gone by the end of that time, I'm in real trouble. If I can pull something out of it, though, things have been (financially) going very well. The workload was so high between April and now that I haven't even had a chance to look at my writing, but now I'm taking this unexpected 'holiday' time to catch up in my yard and to get back into writing Lisa has now been living here for a year, and we both appear to have survived the experience :) LJ --- Rachel's Little NET2FIDO Gate v 0.9.9.8 Alpha* Origin: Rachel's Experimental Echo Gate (1:135/907.17) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 135/907 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
