That's a complex question.

Is it brainwashing from an early age?  Being trained to not question and only
be told what to do/think?

Or is it because he knows that he's worthless and in a capitalistic society
that values merit, he can't rise to the level he wants to believe he's at.  So
he accepts the BS from the socialists and willfully ignores the facts?
