GH> In Canada, we had some and few mini-scandal regarding people
  >taping cellular conversations (especially some ministers and others
  >public figures) thus making big publicity out of it. The Government
  >didn't liked at all. Then they re-inforced the old radio law, but
  >nothing similar to the ECPA was done...yet.
I remember that scandal. Well, Radio Shack is hurting itself since
there are a few dealers mentioned in Monitoring Times that will ship
unblocked scanners south of the border. If I were to get a scanner
today, that's the path I'd take.
GH> Many peoples don't realize (and not necessarly just in Canada!)
  >that almost everything with an antenna attached to it can be received
  >by a third party.
Ignorance...
GH> Back to scanners. Now, since many other companies offer good
  >scanning receiver, i also plan to choose my next one from another
  >source. I was (and am) very pleased with my RS '2004 , but when i buy
  >a radio i want it to cover all the frequencies i need (or can be
  >needed), and not sparsed with holes here and there...
Anyone buying a scanner has to be a fool to buy a crippled radio. If it
does not have full frequency coverage, I do not want it.
GH> By the way, i went trhough many RS store in my area, and none of
  >them received the new 97 catalog yet.
I got mine just the other day-free.
