You might want to read up on the "Creator Covenant" fiasco with open source
projects.
Quick overview:
The Elitists marketed it as a "code of conduct" with lots of flowerly sounding
words. Then once the project adopted it, used it to force the maintainer to
accept commits from "marginalized people" even though the commits were garbage
and then not accept commits from competent people if they were white males.
A number of maintainers got booted from their own projects because of this.
Elitists like to use things like a "code of conduct" to infiltrate and ruin
institutions.
