He learned long ago that he has little or no ability to deal with what
people actually SAY, so now he makes up stuff and tries to attribute his
thoughts to others.  He would just say that he was given to believe it,
or it was the gist of what you said, or you painted it that way, or that
you were assuming it, or some other weasel-wording.  And now he even has
a new rule in his echo that when he uses such a strawman no one can call
him on it.  At least he knows his limitations.  Everyone knows his
limitations.
