I think a big diff is coming down the pipe though & that diff is power
consumption & heat. i.e. if one were to take a NextBox & raise it
to today's speeds etc then you've got a warm chip but coolable (if noisy)
via air etc.
However do likewise to today's machinery (i.e. raise the perf by the same
level) &........liquid sodium cooling where you are using the machine
as part of your water heating system & where you need large radiators
upstairs near the boiler to stop the boiler boiling..?
At the same time the demand is going the other way i.e. people want
consumer elec style machines (e.g. look at the rise of the laptop as the
home PC) & that means quiet & that means preferably passive
cooling...without having to get a plumber in to route the house boiler
circulation through the PC.
I like the Dual core Pent M'es & I think that the 3 ghz barrier is
going to stick for a while (i.e. it's going to be some time before the
4,5,6 etc ghz commodity cpu'es.)
