        Devolution?  I hardly think so.  I is my subjective opinion
that the novels enhance the aired series by giving us a look at things
that went on in the history of the characters during the time NOT
represented by the aired shows.  Hard to cram the 100yr life span
of a TOS/TMS era human into a half-hour tv series, let alone the 200+
year life span of most Vulcans.

        Yes!  It is my experience that the human imagination operates on
an unlimited budget in an unlimited time frame.  All points of view are
equally valid.

        Actually he said the reverse, that just because Data was the
Captain in the novel didn't mean they couldn't or wouldn't put Riker
in the center seat in the aired TNG.  I agree with that point.
