The fidonet transport may be reasonably consistent (everything between 0x20
and 0xFF bar a couple of characters), but it's what is done when it's
exported or imported (or even when originally created) that is the problem.
Even if characters are passed through, there is no guarantee that they will
not be reformatted . . .
