Yes, you can do this.  It is critical that you use one IDE channel for each 
drive in the duplex set.  If you put both drives in a mirrored set on the 
same IDE channel, then you will get pathologically slow performance because 
there is a fairly long transition delay when selecting which device on an IDE 
channel is active.
