RH> I also purchased the Tower Trainer 40. I've had a LOT of fun with it!

Agreed, it's a nice plane. I bought mine second hand from a
disillusioned teenager who never managed to pair up with an
instructor. The engine had never been run. Per my instructor's
suggestion I added an extra wire to reinforce the main gear,
rebuilt the pushrods and other linkages, added a bulkhead to
constrain the radio and battery, and added a hatch over the fuel
tank for improved access. I wish that nose wheel strut had been
more rugged but that probably would have caused something else to
break on my wheelbarrow landings.

RH> I did that too...I almost trashcanned it, but my buddy said that we

Mine was too far gone this time--the wing and empennage were
badly smashed and all of the airframe forward of the wing reverted
to splinters. I even had to sandpaper the piston and sleeve a bit
to reduce binding caused by the crash. Previous repairs included
replacing the main wing spar joiner after a flipover landing broke
the wing in two. Another time a mystery crash, out of sight
behind a clump of trees, resulted in considerable damage to the
fuselage where it bears against the wing's trailing edge.
RH> What a fun hobby! Too bad that mother nature has to ruin the fun so
RH> much (wind, rain & snow!).
Yep, it's fun. The weather is more cooperative down here in
Texas if you don't mind a little heat. Thanks for the reply.
