There is a wonderful program out which will allow you to
graphically surf the Web via a SLIP connection.. It's called
CAB/STiK, and it's supposed to be quite good - a real bear to set
up, though.

Another alternative, though, is to try to find an internet
service which offers a LYNX online shell for text-based Web surfing.
You won't get any graphics this way, but if you mainly want just
info or to download software, it's much faster.

It's not a boat anchor if you're still getting use or enjoyment
out of it. As a matter of fact, by doing a memory upgrade on your
520ST, you'll be opening up to a wider range of software
capabilities and applications. I noticed that when going from my
original, 1-meg enhanced 520STfm to my 4-meg 1040STe. I'd also maybe
suggest budgeting for a TOS upgrade as well, like to TOS 2.06, and
REALLY having what'll seem to you like a brand new machine.
