Like you Mr. Daugherty, I remember the same and was raised as you say.  
But today's world is much different and so is aviation.  I know many 
aviation families that both parents have to work just to make ends 
meet????
This is true for many airline personnel, from pilots to others in the 
company!!!!  Inflation has robbed the USA of may things and one is the 
aviation family!!!!
