subject: DEAD DYING SYSTEM CONT`D

GM> JE> Every once in a while when I try to boot up I get the following
GM> JE> message:
GM> JE> NTLDR is missing
GM> JE> Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart.

GM> JE> Doing this causes NOTHING to happen.

GM> JE> If I press RESET on the case, the system usually reboots correctly.

GM>Every once in a while on power up, my comp gives eight beeps and
GM>jes' sets thur with nothing on the screen.

GM>According to a file I downloaded some time ago, eight short beeps
GM>means a fault in the video card.

True, is award BIOS 8 short beeps is video memory related.

Go here for lots of beep codes:

GM>Pressing RESET does nothing. The only solution is to power down,
GM>wait a second or two and power up again. That usually works, but
GM>on one occasion I had to try five times.

GM>This fault has occurred with two different m'boards and two
GM>different video cards over a period of about four years.

GM>About the only thing I haven't changed is the p/s and case.

When are you going to change those? VBG
Actually a marginal power supply COULD feasibly cause the problem.
Bootup time is one of the times when the PS has the greatest current
drain thus possibly reducing the output voltages.

GM>I have learned to live with it.
