The US actually did have abortions back then.
Google "history of abortion." The practice dates back to at least 1500BC.
In this country it was seen as an acceptable practice, up until the point of
the detection of "fetal motion," until the 1840s. That was when the American
Medical Association was formed and began to see abortion as another pie they
could get a piece of by regulating and making money off of it.
Laws against abortion didn't come into vogue until later, after the country
was nearing its 100th birthday.
