In both Firefox and IE, it caused a new browser window to open, not merely
a preliminary teaser page in the same window, which sounds like what you
got. In any case, it bypasses Firefox's popup detection.

Why do you want popups maximized?
Have you ever had an advertisement open a new browser window in Opera?
