The Paging adapter does just that ... matches the audio line to 600 ohms and 
uses a capacitor to dry the phone line out .. it'll also monitor line 
condition and come off hook when the line impedance drops ...it may have some 
auxiliary relay functions and most probably audio level controls built in.. 
there are a few different flavors out there already built up .. although I've 
built them myself when I had to ... they generally go from about $115 on down 
depending on the features ... some have an audio path only from the phone 
line, some have duplex operation .. ya gotta look close at the specs ..
