MM> The push to have women and men working the same jobs in
MM> today's world, actually is counter-productive to its
MM> advertised effect. Instead of making women and men equal,
MM> it's destroyed the gender-specific role of both, and opened
MM> up a new area for industrial-type sexism. "while the
MM> majority of women today work outside the home, their
MM> take-home pay is roughly 60 percent of what men earn --
MM> exactly the same percentage as it was a hundred years ago,
MM> when only 5 percent of women were so employed."
This is just not so. It's a theory that sounds good, but the
facts do not back it up.
U.S. Department of labor figures on pay rates show a SLIGHT
discrepancy today between the average earnings of men versus
women. If you look at the FOOTNOTES you quickly see that men
work (on the average) of 10 hours MORE per week than
the women, and have been on the job (an average) of five years
longer! Women earn 92 cents to the male dollar. But HE has
to be on the job 5 years longer and work 10 hours a week MORE
to get that 8 cents an hour! I believe that in high tech jobs,
women are now doing better than men as new hires.
In our district's ed. system the pay is equal.
