Lethal Lotto did that, teams were drawn randomly from a pool of 60
players...not sure if anyone is going to run it this year since Jackal has
passed away though. :(

Subject: [twgsdotorg] Maybe a new game idea

>
> After following this forum for a good while, I've noticed that most of
the "top" players complain of a lack of interest in the game or a lack of
"different" competitors. Some have posted "help sites"
or have written
articles to help newer players with general game knowledge and basic
tactics. While these are of tremendous help to the newer/unknown players,
they are not going to bring these players up to the "upper levels" of play.
> I also noticed that some of the players who post here state that they
only play in tourneys. The average/unknown players are not likely to get the
chance to play along side any of the "top" players because they tend to
travel in "elite" groups and basically corp with players of similiar skill
levels and/or only play in tourneys.
> I wonder if any of the "top" players have an interest in taking a
corp of unknowns into a game. Basically what I am proposing is letting some
of us unknowns sign up, and get randomly assigned to one of the "top"
players. Let one of the "top" players assess the skill level and game
knowledge of the players assigned to them and organize their corps
accordingly. Maybe give 10 days on a practice game to each corp to work out
details and provide guidance and training to it's members. Then run a game
and let the battles begin, may the best corp win. however, I wouldlike to
see the CEO/Mentor only have partial turns so he could not carry the load,
so to speak.
> If this idea has been brought up before, forgive me, I must have missed
it. I'm not sure if any of the "top" players have the time, inclination, or
the patience for something like this. But, I believe playing along side some
of the "top" players and getting "in game guidance"
would be much more
beneficial to the "unknown"players than trying to read up on a tactic and
trying to implement it in a game where there are "top" players playing. So
all the talk about the game dying to lack of interest..etc.. Here is a
chance or opportunity to make an impact on some of the
"hopefully" future up
and coming players. Sorry for being so long winded....
